Obituary of Mathew Manchur

Matt was born one of 11 children of Harry and Nellie Manchur on the family homestead near Gilbert Plains Manitoba on Oct.15/1928. He left in his mid –teens and travelled to Alberta. He found work on road construction near Raymond Alberta where he met his wife Maxine. They moved many times and their three boys Darrel, Sheldon and Robert were born in Brooks AB, Edson AB and Olds AB. Matt started his career with the Alberta Forest Service and transferred to Alberta Fish and Wildlife and during these years. Moving to the Federal Government, he worked as a Park Warden in Banff National Park AB and Riding Mountain National Park Manitoba before moving to Rankin Inlet NWT as Development Officer and continuing in this service holding posts in Ft. Smith NWT and Inuvik NWT. After retirement he moved back to Alberta and lived in Onoway AB, Barrhead AB and Hanna AB where he was predeceased by his wife Maxine and his granddaughter Jocelyn (father Sheldon) in 2010. During his last 10 years he drove approx. 400,000 kms travelling to visit friends and family all over western Canada and the US. He made many trips back and forth to the NWT with his best friend Annie Beaulieu of Hay River NWT and was in Hay River when his health failed him and he returned to Barrhead, Alberta where he passed away peacefully on April 2, 2020. He is survived by his son Darrel and wife Susan (grandchildren Kelly and Jenn) son Sheldon (grandson Mathew) and son Robert and wife Kerrie (grandsons Bryce and Curtis) and at last count 6 great grandchildren. Also left to mourn his passing are his dear friend Annie, his brothers: Ernie (wife Harriet) Tony (wife Nellie) sister Doris, and a host of in-laws and nieces and nephews. Driving that highway till the end. Rest in Peace Dad. A private burial will be held on Thursday April 16, 2020, at the Hanna Cemetery.
