Obituary of Roderick Theodore Quaschnick

Roderick (Rod) Theodore Quaschnick QUASCHNICK, Roderick (Rod), 73 of Hanna, Alberta, passed away with family by his side at the Peter Lougheed Medical Center on February 8, 2018. Rod was born April 18, 1944 in Hanna, Alberta. Eldest son to the Late Ted and Toni Quaschnick. June 25, 1966, Rod married Vivian Fortna and together they raised three children, Shannon, Jason and Ryan. Rod was a man of many talents and was always willing to help others. Rod grew up farming with his father and brothers. Being a farm boy, he was a self-taught tradesman and always took great pride in any job he did, big or small. He loved nothing more than a challenge. When Rod wasn’t farming, he worked at many jobs in the winters, he was a forklift operator, dozer, loader and backhoe operator, gravel trucker, and cattle hauler. He could fix or rebuild just about anything he set his mind to, motorcycles being his passion. Rod’s hobbies over the years included woodworking, he loved to build life like model toys, camp in the bow slough with his boys, play crib against Carrie, and tinker on anything with a motor. He was also an avid archer, ball player and curler in his younger years. His favourite past time was going for trips on his motorcycle. If the weather was good, you knew you could see him blasting by on the Harley and heading out for a ride. He passed on his motorcycle bug to all his children and grand-children. He loved nothing more than to go for a ride with any or all of them. He became a grandfather for the first time in 1993. He was so excited about it and spent a lot of time with all his grandchildren. They all fondly call him “Pa” which was shortened from Papa. Rod also became a great grandfather in 2015 for the first time to Meredith and then again in 2017 to Calvin. Rod will be greatly missed by his loving wife Vivian of 51 years, daughter, Shannon (Blake) Gross, and sons, Jason (Carrie) and Ryan (Crystal). Grandchildren Cody (Alyssa) Gross, Kyle Gross, Jaxon Quaschnick and Ava Quaschnick. Great grandchildren Meredith Gross and Calvin Gross. Also left to mourn are his brother Merle (Linda) Quaschnick, brother-in-laws Ed (Jean) Fortna, Doug (Ruth) Fortna, sister-in-law Marjorie (Doug) McKay and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Rod was predeceased by his infant son, Father Ted, Mother Toni and Brother Wesley. The Celebration of Rod’s life was held February 24, 2018 at the Hanna Royal Canadian Legion.
