Obituary of Elinor Winnifred Wiegand

Elinor passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018 with her family by her side.

Elinor was born in Calgary, Alberta, on August 2, 1939.   As a young girl Elinor was involved in Highland dancing even competing on provincial levels. In 2001 when she retired, Elinor moved to Hanna to be closer to her granddaughters. She loved being Nana and would spend her days doing crafts, sneaking chocolates and picking them up from school. Elinor started the tradition of making gingerbread houses with the girls every Christmas; a tradition carried on today. Elinor was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #25 and lived in the Acadia Lodge for many years.

Elinor leaves behind to mourn her passing, her two daughters: Rhonda (Tom) Adkins, Raelene (Colin) Liddicoat, and granddaughters Mercedes & Brianna Liddicoat. Her brother Lorne Suitor, and nieces: Sandra (Dave) Avramenko, and Leanne Suitor. Elinor’s longest friends, Brian Kirkpatrick and Sandy (Roy) Payne.

Elinor and Sandy had a very unique friendship lasting close to 76 years. Meeting at 18 months old, together they created a special bond. Many funny stories involve these two.

A Celebration of Elinor’s Life will be held at the Hanna Royal Canadian Legion, Wednesday July 4, 2018 at 1:00 P.M.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, if donations in memory of Elinor can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 25, Box 1407, or the Hanna Sunshine Club, Box 160, Hanna, Alberta, T0J 1P0.
