Obituary of Eva Kathryne Mohl

Mohl, Eva Kathryne “Cookie” passed away peacefully on June 5, 2018 in Hanna, Alberta at the age of 66 years old.

Eva was born on August 27, 1951 in Calgary, Alberta, to Mary Elizabeth and Clarence Mohl.

Eva spent her entire life in Hanna where she attended school and held various jobs in the community. She worked for several years at KFC in the kitchen doing general food preparation when it first opened.

Eva was a very active child and was most happy riding her bike around town and playing with her friends. But most of all, Eva was the happiest when she could drag home a stray cat or dog, or even a wounded bird, or critter. Her love for cats and small dogs was immeasurable, however they paled in comparison with her love of horses.

Eva’s biggest joy in life was when her daughter Rachel Elizabeth was born. Eva lived vicariously through Rachel and made sure Rachel had opportunities for activities in town including dance, figure skating, baseball, and a great stint in the local 4-H Horse Club. Eva was very proud of Rachels accomplishments in 4-H. Rachel shared her mothers love of horses and owned and raised her own horse named “Squeegee”.

From a very early age Eva had many hobbies including knitting, rug hooking, and needle point art. When she was six she enrolled in the Craft of the Month Club and could hardly wait to see each month what neat and exciting craft she was going to produce next. Eva was a prolific reader as well and enjoyed mysteries and novels. Her other love was watching her favorite old movie stars which included Elvis Presley and the “Duke” john Wayne.

In her later years, much to everyone’s surprise, Eva took interest in NHL Hockey. She delighted in keeping track of all the teams and their players and even kept rigorous notes including win/loss data, favorite players and had a knack for remembering many of the players names and jersey numbers. She also passed the time by completing word search books and games.

Eva will be dearly missed by her brother Adrian and wife Tina and family, her dear nephew William Mohl, cousin James Gratz (Val) and family, plus many family friends and acquaintances. They will miss her unique brand of humour and her larger than life presence.

Eva was pre-deceased by her parents Mary Elizabeth and Clarence Mohl, her daughter Rachel Elizabeth Mohl, and her Dear Aunt Ruth Gratz.

The family is planning a small simple interment at the Hanna Cemetery, on Saturday June 16, 2018 at 11:30 AM to bid Eva farewell. Anyone wishing to attend are most welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Hanna SPCA, Box 2126, Hanna, Alberta, T0J 1P0.
