Obituary of Frank Neufeld
It is with great sadness that we announce Frank Neufeld, beloved father, and grandfather, passed away at the Hanna Health Centre on October 3, 2024, at the age of 92 years.
Frank was born to parents Jacob and Helen Neufeld on their farm not far from Warman, Saskatchewan. He was the second eldest child in a family of nine boys and one girl.
From a young age, Frank’s mechanical aptitude shone brightly. By the time Frank reached his teens he was already driving and tinkering with cars. As a young man he traveled throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Vancouver Island, working at construction jobs and driving heavy equipment like bulldozers.
In 1954, Frank found construction work in Banff, Alberta. This led to a job at Brewster Transport as a bus driver and apprentice mechanic. He went on to graduate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary with a Mechanic’s Certificate.
On October 22, 1955 he married Alice Berg and they took up residence in Banff, Alberta. Two sons were born: Leonard Frank in 1957, and Larry Louis in 1959.
In 1962 the family of four moved to Hanna, Alberta where Frank became Head Mechanic and Supervisor, in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of an expanding fleet of school buses. He took great pride in his work and served in this position until his retirement in 1993.
Frank enjoyed people and participated in activities like baseball and singing in the church choir. He also loved a challenge and could build or fix almost anything.
Above all, Frank enjoyed being a loving father and devoted husband, and made family the focus of his life.
Since July 2023, Frank was a resident at the Hanna Health Centre Long Term Care Unit. Frank’s family is very appreciative of the exceptional care he received and wish to extend a special thanks to all the health care providers at the Centre.
Frank is survived by sons; Leonard (Debbie Simmons) of Qualicum Beach, BC; Larry (Sylvia Leung) of Victoria, BC; grandson Brandon (Nancy Neufeld) of Edmonton, AB; Sister Betty Roberts; brothers Leonard, Bob, Ken and David; plus many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Frank was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Helen, loving spouse Alice, brothers Dick, Rod, Peter, and Larry.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 23, 2024, 1:00 pm at the First United Church in Hanna.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to First United Church, Box 940, Hanna, Alberta, T0J 1P0.
