Obituary of George Henry Costain

George Henry Costain was born in Summerside PEI on August 7,1961. He was the eighth child of Charlie & Elaine Costain.

He left the island at the age of 18. He had two sisters out west, one in Calgary and one in Red Deer and would visit them often.

George and Bev met in 1986 in Calgary and married in July of 1987. They were married for 37 years and raised three boys together. They moved a few times because of Bev’s job with Canadian Airlines and ended back in Calgary in 1997.

In 2003 they moved back to PEI where they stayed for almost 20 years. George loved lobster, oysters, clams and all things from the sea.

He was an avid fisherman and couldn’t wait for the April 15th opening each year. He could be found fishing the many rivers and streams around the area. When bass fishing became popular, he could be found down at the shore with his rod. They was some good eatin I tells ya by.

Every Christmas George and Bev would put on a huge scoff and have twenty or more people over to play music and sing. It was such a great time.

George and Bev went up North to work for Northwest Company and lived in Coral Harbour Nunavut and Old Crow Yukon where they made many friends.

George loved to play his guitar and sing old country music. He would often be found either at a benefit or a senior’s lodge entertaining people.

He had a heart as big as the world loved meeting new people and would often start talking to people in the stores. To him there were no strangers just new friends waiting to be met. He loved to torture and laugh and joke and no one was safe from his teasing.

George and Bev moved to Hanna in June of 2020. They both have come to love this community and have met so many incredible people.

George passed suddenly Sept. 2, 2024. He is greatly missed by his best friend and wife, his sons, grandkids and his many family members here and down home. He will be missed by his friends from coast to coast to coast.

He is survived by his wife Beverly of 37 years, sons: Kristin, Aaron and Shawne; eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild; siblings: Sybil (Larry) Etherington, Alfred (Louise) Costain, Louise (James) Costain-Hanson, Lillian (Don) Einarson, Carol (Kim) Collicut and Jenene (Leigh) Hart; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

George was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Elaine Costain; sisters: Joyce, Mary and Joan; and mother-in-law Eunice Albertson.

A memorial service will be held at the Hanna Alliance Church on Saturday September 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon to be held at the Hanna Seniors Circle following the service.
