Obituary of Scott Nelson
Scott was born on April 29, 1973 and was raised on the Nelson Farm north of Hanna with his parents Rena and Bill, sister Leah and grandparents Harry and Margret. He attended J.C. Charyk school and graduated in 1991.
When Scott was small, he loved riding his dirt bike or snowmobile, hunting gophers, hanging out at Grandma Margret’s, riding around with Grandpa Harry and exploring the farm with his dog. He also loved going to stay in Sundre with Grandpa Don and Grandma Patsy where he would help with whatever project Grandpa Don had on the go.
In 1996, Scott moved to Yellowknife, NWT where he worked helping to build a diamond mine “way up north” as a Blaster’s helper. He lived there for a year and then returned to Alberta to put down roots in Hardisty. Once in Hardisty, that was the start of his many years in the Oilfield. He started out as a swamper on a maintenance truck and then worked his way to be an operator for Pan Canadian and Husky.
Scott has 3 sons, Gavin, Gage and Griffen. They were his pride and joy and he loved to follow them around to all their activities. He enjoyed taking the kids camping, hunting, on ski trips and even houseboat vacations. When the kids were small you could find him at the rink coaching hockey or on the diamond coaching baseball. He was also the first one to volunteer to be the kindergarten parent-helper whenever he could. When they weren’t at practice, you would often find him in the backyard playing catch or teaching a proper batting stance, and there would often be several coaching moments in the vehicle on the way home from a big game. As the kids got older, he would follow along on social media when he was unable to attend. In 2020, Scott became a grandpa to his sweet granddaughter Ella. She was the apple of his eye and he was very proud to be called Papa.
Scott loved camping, playing slo-pitch and rec hockey. As an adult, he spent hours teaching himself how to be a pretty good goalie. He loved the socializing, telling the big story and being the life of the party. He would never shy away from volunteering or lending a hand to someone in need. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Scott is survived by his three boys Gavin, Gage & Griffen, his sister Leah (Russell), niece Alison (Austin), nephew Nolan (Rebecca), his granddaughter Ella, his companion Cori and her children Lexi & Mathieu, and Father Bill.
Scott was pre-deceased by his mom Rena (2021), Grandpa Harry Nelson (2004), Grandma Margaret Nelson (1996). Grandpa Don Braconnier (2015) & Grandma Patsy Braconnier (2012).
