Obituary of Emil Sieppert

Emil Sieppert, beloved husband of Nancy Sieppert passed away on January 30, 2024, at the Hanna Hospital at the age of 93 years.

Emil was born in Hanna, Alberta on July 25, 1930, to Fred and Clara Sieppert. Emil was the eldest of seven children.

He started farming at a young age with his dad and uncle Dan. They farmed in the Handhills, and Emil loved playing baseball with his brother Ralph.

Emil and Ruby Sieppert were married in June 1952. Lonnie, their only son was born on October 14, 1956. Lonnie married Kathy and had two daughters. They farmed the David Rust land eighteen miles south of Hanna in the Parr District until the fall of 1956. In the spring of 1957, they bought and moved to the McLarren land north of Hanna. There they farmed for many years; now their son Lonnie farms the land.

Emil’s first wife passed away in 1985. Emil remarried Nancy in 1992 and resided on the family farm until 2015 when they moved to Hanna.

He was a long time Elks member for 43 ½ years. He also belonged to the Solon and Garden Plains community.

Emil loved his grandchildren and enjoyed them so much when they came to visit. He was a loving husband and father and cared for Nancy’s seven children as if they were his own.

He had a love for trains, tractors and chickens! Emil said he learned so much about chickens from his great granddaughter when they talked “Chicken Talk.”

Emil enjoyed going to any event that his grandchildren were involved in. Dancing, hockey, curling and baseball.

Saturdays were special to Emil as every Saturday he would chat with his brother Gary on the phone.

Emil was a kind gentleman to all. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those that knew him.

Emil is survived and will be missed by his wife Nancy of 32 years; his children: Lonnie (Kathy) Sieppert, Rock (Ryo) Whitney, Guy (Gill) Whitney, Craig Whitney, Cherie (Carman) Whitney, Drake (Cindy) Whitney, Candy Whitney and Jeff (Korean) Whitney; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Vi Karg, Marj (Clarence) Flemmer; brother Gary (Sally) Sieppert; brother-in-law Gordie Rossler and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife Ruby (Rust) Sieppert; brother Ralph (Ann) Sieppert; sisters: Murial (Bob) Griffith and Gail Rossler.

A Gathering and Luncheon at the Hanna Seniors Circle will be held on February 10, 2024, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, with a tribute at 2:00 pm. A private interment for the family will take place at the Hanna Cemetery.
