Obituary of Barry Allan Kautz

Barry was born in Hanna, Alberta on January 1, 1958, to Harold and Francis Kautz. A baby brother for sister Deb. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Hanna. After he graduated Barry worked a few jobs then went to college in Olds to become an assessor. Barry made lifelong friends and he cherished each and every one of them. As a kid on the farm he liked to dirt bike, skidoo and he developed a love for motors and fixing things. He and his family would curl together. Barry liked curling and excelled at it. He was an avid curler and won many bonspiels and again, met lifelong friends.

In 1984 Barry met his true love, Wanda. They married on April 5, 1986. In 1989 Tanner was born, followed by Logan in 1992. Barry adored his family and was an incredible father and husband. He loved watching the boys, playing sports such as hockey and football with them and so enjoyed working on the vehicles together. The boys’ sports and curling took up the winter months and camping filled every weekend in the summer.

When Tanner decided to make the family farm his place to live, Barry was so proud and tried to help guide him as much as he could. Logan excelled at mechanics and to achieve his goals he moved away. Barry was so proud of all he accomplished as well. In the last few years Barry followed Wanda to many barrel racing jackpots, being her number one fan and supporter.

Tanner’s passions and interests, Logan’s passions and interests and Wanda’s passion and interests were all of Barry’s passions. He would always help each of us achieve goals, coach and support us. However, Barry did say being a grandpa to Molly was by far the very best in life! And the best sound in the world was her giggle!!

Barry adored and loved the incredible ladies that Tanner and Logan chose. He felt that Cass was perfect for Logan and Katie perfect for Tanner.

Our gratitude and thanks for all the help and support that we have received from family and friends has helped us through this journey. We had incredible doctors and nurses in Drumheller, Calgary, Red Deer and especially Hanna. Special thanks to Heather and staff at Harvest Sky pharmacy who went above and beyond with their outstanding service.

Thank you to each and every one of you that came to visit, called, texted and supported each of us. There are no words to express our gratitude. Barry so appreciated all of you.

Barry passed away peacefully in Hanna on December 8, 2023, with his family by his side.

He is deeply missed by Wanda, Tanner and Katie, Logan, Cass, and precious granddaughter Molly; sister Deb (Ross) Rawlusyk and family; many special extended family and Barry’s fur family: Jett, Taz, Blue, Shandi, Boots and Pedro.

In honor of Barry and the man he was, please wear your most comfortable pants and shirt to celebrate his life on Friday December 15, 2023, 3:00 p.m., at the Hanna Legion.

We love you Dad.
