Obituary of Viola Violet Allsopp

Allsopp, Viola Violet August 8, 1930 - June 24, 2017 Viola Violet Allsopp (Krogan) of Hanna, Alberta passed away peacefully Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the age of 86 at the Palliser Nursing Home in Hanna, AB. Her son and daughter-in-law were by her side. Vi was born August 8, 1930 in Yorkton, SK to Lillian Krug and was adopted by Swen and Hannah Krogan when she was 6. She moved to Cereal, AB in 1949 to work in the Hotel Dining Room, and not long after went to work for Lloyd Hampton in 1950. It was there Vi met her future husband, Allin Allsopp. They were married in July 1951 in Cereal, and created a family of their own on the farm in Big Stone. They remained on the farm until shortly before its sale in the fall of 2001. From there they moved into Hanna and spent their remaining years together in a house on Main Street, until Allin’s passing in 2014. Allin and Vi were married for 63 years. Vi had many talents. She was an amazing cook, and had quite the green thumb, enjoying a large flower and vegetable garden. On rare occasion she would remind you she was a skilled musician by playing a song or two on any one of the instruments around their living room. Nothing brought Vi more joy than a furry K-9 companion by her side, or the silent thrill of winning yet another card game. She was an avid collector, gathering spoons, dolls, antique miniature lamps, and so on. She served as the Big Stone contact for Environment Canada for years, diligently maintaining and recording information for a weather station on the farm. She was quietly, playfully mischievous, had an understated, wonderful sense of humor, and was a champion of the underdog. Vi’s life was one full of challenges, but it was a beautiful one; and it was one we hope she felt proud of. Vi is survived by her son David (Darleen); her grandchildren Virginia (Tyler) Kulak, Sherri (Darrell) Depper; William (Christine) Allsopp; Pamela (Ryan) Inman; Robert Allsopp; Tlora Allsopp; Michael Hauck and Jack Hauck. She is also survived by seven great -grandchildren; Ben and Jane Burwash; Avery and Sam Depper; Connor Allsopp and Taylor McNeely; and Gemma Inman and by her daughter-in-law Carrie Barker. She was predeceased by her husband, Allin Allsopp; her parents, Swen and Hannah Krogen; her brother, Lloyd Krogan; her mother Lillian Krug; her parent-in-laws David and Violet Allsopp; her two sons, Ronald Allsopp and Robert Allsopp; and granddaughter Veronica Allsopp. By request of the family a graveside service is being held at the Youngstown Cemetery the July 4, 2017 at 11 am. A luncheon of communion, open to all, will follow at 12 pm at the Big Stone Hall.
