Obituary of Martin Frank Ackerman

It is with sadness that we announce the death of our dear brother, uncle, and great uncle, Martin Frank “Marty” Ackerman. Marty passed away in the Hanna Hospital July 3, 2017 at the age of 82 years. He was born to Frank and Magdelena (Stark) Ackerman on the family farm at Denzel, Saskatchewan November 11,1934. He was the 8th of 10 children, Marty was predeceased by his wife; Mary, parents; Frank and Magdalena, brothers; Max, and Ben, sisters; Marie, Anne and Minnie. Marty married the love of his life Mary Anna Hittel in 1964. Shortly after they married they made Hanna home where he owned and operated Ackerman Welding Shop and together they raised their nieces Laurie and Linda. Marty loved his community and gave back by being a very active member in the Hanna Young Lions Club. He was always there giving a helping hand with the fund raisers. When Marty retired from Welding he joined the Chrysler team where he was a mechanic. He spent many happy years there. Later in life he did yard maintenance and snow shovelling. He would be the first one out following a snow fall making sure the place of business or residents had clear steps and sidewalks. One of Marty's loves was bingo. In the past years Marty and his bingo buddies met on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at different venues. He would also act as a chauffeur on some of those nights. He always made sure that no one was without a ride to bingo. Bingo for Marty was more than the win. It was the relationships and friendships that were a big part of his life, due to the Game. He leaves to mourn his passing brothers; Jerome (Kay) Coquitlam, B.C., Ed (Bev) Surrey, B.C. Sisters; Eva Richardson Hanna, Alberta and Monica Tillotson Calgary, Alberta, his 2 nieces Laurie Gall, Hanna, Alberta and Linda Clark, Red Deer, Alberta whom held a very special place in his heart, plus numerous other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
