Obituary of Marjorie Gail Irion

Marjorie Gail Irion was received by her Lord and Savior on July 30, 2023 at the age of 85. She passed peacefully in her home at Hanna Long Term Care.

Gail was born on September 5, 1937, in Rose Lynn, Alberta to parents Thomas and Hulga Croker.

Gail was a sibling to six other brother and sisters. Most of her growing up years was in the Hanna area.

She met the love of her life, Ernest Irion at a church function that they both attended. Ernie and Gail were married on December 12, 1956 and they were blessed with five children: Darryl, Rodney, Marilynn, Kevin and Allan.

Gail and Ernie farmed the Irion Family Farm near Endiang. Farming life was busy. Gail not only took care of the household duties and raising children, but she was a dedicated farm wife feeding chickens and pigs, tending to the garden and milking cows. Their milk cow operation grew and they shipped fresh cow cream and milk to Stettler and to Calgary.

Gail’s interest and past time was mainly knitting. She loved to knit and would knit many pairs of slippers for her children. She sometimes would tinker on the piano and read a good book.

In 2009 Gail and Ernie moved off the family farm and purchased a house in Hanna. Ernie passed away in April 2009. Gail remained in her house in Hanna and later moved to the Hanna Lodge for about one year. Due to health concerns, Gail decided to move to the Hanna Long Term Care Facility. Gail always enjoyed visits from church groups and her family.  She loved to visit!  Gail remained at Hanna Long Term Care until her passing.

Gail is survived by her children: Darryl (Gracie), Rodney (Esther), Marilynn (Fred), Kevin (Annie), and Allan; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also leaves behind to mourn her loss, sisters: Joyce and Iris and brother Gary.

She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Hulga; husband Ernest, and grandson Dallas.

We will miss her love and the care she provided us, her astounding memory of birthdays and anniversaries, and her desire to connect with other people.

We grieve, and we miss you.

If desired, and in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gail can be made directly to the Endiang Hall, or the Alberta Lung Association, 1259 91 St SW W103, Edmonton, AB T6X 1E9.
