Dean was a soul to be admired . I have such fond memories of Dean and Russ from my childhood and early adult years in Hanna. I looked up to Dean for her consistently strong kind, caring ways. When you were in her presence, you had her full attention. Her opinions and comments were always sensible and sincere and her passion for all she did was contagious . She was often a silent angel for children or more vulnerable people who needed a bit of extra care when she was in the community or driving the bus and attending sporting events or tours. I have been away from Hanna for many years but I was fortunate enough to have spent some time with her a few weeks ago before her passing. Despite her very fragile condition, she was still able to acknowledge my admiration of her life and so many of the things that she did for others which often went unnoticed by many. She was an angel on earth and I am so honoured to have know her . The world is a better place because of Dean and Russ and their contributions and commitment to the people of their community . Their hearts were huge and always available for others . I wish them peace and joy in their next journey. Xoxo

I met Dean in 1981, when I moved to Hanna from Ontario. My mother told me that is where Dean lived and from whom we bought our first Arabian stallion in 1962, Bar DR Ragal. What a small world. I will never forget the first time I met Dean, I went to her farm, knocked on her door, told her who I was and she slammed the door in my face, I continue to laugh to this day. Next day I went to the National restaurant in Hanna where Russ and Dean were known to frequent. We finally got to know each other. I showed Sir Simon ( her little bay stallion) for a few years, travelling all over Alberta and Saskatchewan, . I have some many fond memories of Russ and Dean. May you rest in peace, Dean.

I moved to Hanna during the fall of 1979. Not too long after, I met Dean at an ag society meeting. Somehow I knew that she and Russ owned & raised horses. I asked her if I could come to their place to “muck” with the horses. Dean made me very welcome and I spent many, many hours and days out there helping and mucking with their Arabian horses. I ended up buying a wonderful weanling Arab colt from them in the fall of 1980. That started me taking my colt and travelling with Dean to Arab and open shows for a number of years, which I loved. I really missed that little farm, the horses and Russ and Dean when my horse and I moved to Fairview, AB. My family & I continued stoping at the farm for a visit whenever we travelled anywhere near Hanna.
