Obituary of Gale Sharon Martin

Please share a memory of Gale to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gale Sharon Martin of High River passed away on July 5, 2022, at her home at the age of 74 years.

Gale was born in Hanna, Alberta on Aug 17, 1947, to Freda and Jobe Martin. Gale was blessed with two brothers: Les, and Jerry.

Gale grew up on the family farm Northeast of Hanna and spent all her growing up years in the Hanna Area. In 1953 she started school at Meadowlands and finished her education at Hanna Highschool, graduating in 1965.

After graduating from High School, Gale moved to Olds, Alberta to attend Olds Vocational College. Gale completed the Business Diploma program.

Gale’s work career led her to Calgary. She worked for the Calgary City Police, Suncore, CNRL, and Penn West Oil Field Company. She retired from Penn West in 2017.

Gale loved to travel. She travelled to Portugal, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Mexico, and all over the USA. She enjoyed Spain so much that she ended up living in Spain for a couple years.

Some of Gale’s favorite hobbies included: playing the guitar, skiing in the winter, golf, camping and boating with friends. Every fall Gale would come home to help with harvest on the family farm. Her job was to drive truck.

Volunteering at the Mustard Seed in Calgary was important to Gale. Helping provide meals to the homeless and needy brought great satisfaction to her.

Gale never had children, but her cats were her babies! She loved cats. Sam was her favorite cat. They brought her much joy and comfort.

Gale had a “likeable” personality. She got along with everyone, and she liked people. She liked to joke around and always made everyone laugh.

She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.

Gale is survived by her brothers: Les (Liz) Martin, and Jerry (Linda) Martin of Hanna; niece Andrea; nephews: Lyle, Kirk, Adam, and Blaine; aunt Elisie Johnson, as well as many cousins and extended family. She is also survived by many close friends, and her friend Joann Klem and family.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Hanna Cemetery at a later date.

If desired donations in memory of Gale can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all friends and family for your love, condolences, support and prayers during this difficult time.
