Obituary of Ellen Gardner
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Ellen Gardner
on April 17, 2020 one day short of her 97th birthday. Ellen was born on April 18, 1923 on the homestead near Tugaske, Sask.
She got her schooling at Sprattsville and Pilgrim country schools in Saskatchewan, and later took correspondence courses to further her education. At 16 she moved to Moose Jaw to work. She met & married Doug Gardner and moved to Hanna in 1957 and they were blessed with 2 daughters Bonnie & Cindy.
Mom worked in various grocery stores in Hanna until retiring in 1989. After retiring she took up babysitting to keep busy and enjoyed that part of her life very much. Later in her life she would love to tell us stories from her babysitting days that made her smile with laughter.
Ellen was an avid bowler, enjoyed curling & baseball in her younger years. Although she didn't curl in her later years she loved to watch a good game on TV. She wasn't a big traveller but definitely enjoyed a trip she made to Hawaii & loved trips into BC through the majestic Rocky Mountains.
Home was the place Mom loved to be most of all, raising her girls & watching them grow. When her grandkids Barry & Terri-Lynn were born they became the light of her life. She loved her girls & grandkids unconditionally, taught them gently, gave endlessly & forgave readily.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Nill (Wade Richardson), Cindy Mohl (Jeff), her grandchildren, Barry Nill, Terri-Lynn Guni (Zie). She is also survived by her 2 nieces Darla Brown (Dennis) & Janet Donnelly (Greg) and their families.
She was predeceased by parents Albert & Janet Medcalf, her 2 brothers Jack (Lorena), Art, & her devoted sister Jean Bruce (John). Mom was also predeceased by our little angel, great granddaughter, Kyra Guni.
Mom will be remembered for her kindness, her integrity in all things & most of all her sense of humour. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed by her family & friends,
Private graveside family service to be held on Friday April 24, 2020 at the Hanna Cemetery.
Donations can be made in Ellen's name directly to the Hanna Long Term Care Recreation (Nursing Home) fund or the Hanna Ladies Auxiliary, Box 23, Hanna, AB.
