Obituary of LaWona Rae Fecho

LaWona Rae Fecho (nee Tillack), passed away peacefully in Hanna, AB, on March 21, 2020, at the age of 84. LaWona was born April 21, 1935 in Lethbridge Alberta to Auburn and Lucille Tillack. LaWona grew up on the family farm in Stirling, Alberta for a few years and then they moved to Rosemary Alta. She was the oldest of five children: Jolayne, Bryan, Bruce and Terry. In November of 1952, LaWona enrolled in the School for Nursing Aides in Calgary. Part of her training brought her to the Hanna hospital from March 29th to June 6th of 1953. While working there, she met her future husband Don Fecho who was visiting his ill mother. Soon after, Wonnie and Don started dating. Wonnie continued with her training and graduated in the fall of 1953. June 26th 1954, Don and Wonnie were married in Rosemary Alberta and were blessed with seven children. Wonnie continued working at the Hanna Hospital all the while raising her family. She enjoyed many arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, gardening, beautiful flower gardens, cooking and baking. Especially the cooking, the fried chicken in that special pot, was divine, and there was nothing like that pan of brownies that would often have a houseful of her kids and their friends devouring the entire pan in no time at all. Her brownies were so popular that while Garry was in High School one tray went for $100 at a high school fund raiser. Wonnie loved all the holidays and would put on a feast like no other. She loved the lights at Christmas and had a special knack of decorating the house, filling it with wonderful aromas and always made it look like there were a thousand gifts under the tree, no matter how many were there for Christmas, even after her kids were grown. When you would go to Nana’s there was always a big jar of peppermints for the grandkids and great grandkids to dive into and she would always have some kind of new baking recipe that she just tried, that would come out for everyone to have a taste and rate if it should be repeated. LaWona was predeceased by her baby sister Terry; her two sons Kenny and Ronnie; two granddaughters: Jennifer and Amanda Gall; her parents: Auburn and Lucille Tillack; her sister Jolayne Hudson and her husband Don Fecho. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (Gerry) Anderson; son Garry (Eileen) Fecho; daughter Cathy (Robin) Gall; son Kevin (Cary) Fecho; and daughter Karen Fecho. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeff (Amanda), Brodie (Leah), Kyle (Bailey), Tyson (Mary), Kelsie (Jace), Cory (Jayden), Cole, Dylan, Taylor, and Kurt; nine great grand children; brother Bryan (Sharon) Tillack and brother Bruce (Orfelinda)Tillack; brother-in-law Art Hudson, along with many nieces and nephews. Memorial tributes may be directed to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hanna Hospital, Box 23, Hanna, Alberta, T0J 1P0, or to a charity of donor’s choice. A private family graveside service will be held on April 6, 2020, at the Hanna Cemetery. Hanna Funeral Services Ltd., entrusted with the care and arrangements; 403-854-5956, www.hannafuneral.ca
