Obituary of Mervin Roy Giem

Mervin Roy Giem was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on March 18th, 1932. His parents were Ervin and Della Giem.  He had one sister, Marion Johnson.  He passed away on Febraury 5, 2025, at the Hanna Hospital at the age of 92.

 

The Giem family later relocated to Ferintosh, Alberta were Mervin joined his father in farming as a young man, where he would eventually meet and marry June Fankhanel on “June” 21, 1955. and together they would expand the original farm after his father’s passing.

 

Mervin had an entrepreneurial spirt and had several different careers in his life; an electrician for Gimble Electric in Edmonton, farming at Ferintosh, to selling cars for Battle River Chrysler in Camrose, owner of – Main Street Liquor in Hanna, as well as the real estate development of Sunwest Resort Village in Casa Grande, Arizona.  Merv was also an active volunteer in the Ferintosh Community leading the effort to convert the Ferintosh School into Community Center, the rural gas coop Battle River Natural Gas Co-op to bring natural gas to central Alberta, and elder of the Ferintosh United Church.

 

Mervin is survived by his three children, Sherry Warnock (Calvin), Nancy Taylor, and Timothy; and three grandchildren, Timothy & Mathew Taylor, Riley (Adaire) Warnock, and one great grandchild Monroe Warnock.

 

Mervin was predeceased by his wife June and his sister Marion.

 

Merv has been cremated and his Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
